Карьера

Уэзерелл проработала 23 года в Открытом университете в Великобритании, откуда ушла на пенсию в 2011 году в звании почётного профессора. Затем она заняла должность профессора психологии на условиях неполного рабочего дня в Оклендском университете в Новой Зеландии[2].

Работа

Уэзерелл продвигала дискурсивный подход к психологии. Её книга 1987 года «Дискурс и социальная психология: за пределами установок и поведения» (англ. Discourse and Social Psychology: Beyond Attitudes and Behaviour), написанная в соавторстве с Джонатаном Поттером, оказала влияние на социальную психологию и другие области. Подход Уэзерелл к дискурс-анализу соответствует взглядам других англоязычных аналитиков, таких как Гилберт и Малкей (1984).

Уэзерелл утверждает, что социальные действия и рутины формируются внутри соответствующих социальных организаций, и что невозможно разделить тела, разговоры и текст[3].

В 2010—2011 годах она руководила совместным проектом по вопросам идентичности, финансируемым Советом по экономическим и социальным исследованиям (ESRC) Великобритании[2].
