Элдридж, Пол

Пол Э́лдридж (англ. Paul Eldridge; 5 мая 1888[1][2][…], Бухарест, Румыния — 26 июля 1982[2], Нью-Йорк, Нью-Йорк, США) — американский поэт, прозаик и преподаватель. Наиболее известен соавторством с Джорджем Сильвестром Виреком над трилогией экзотических фэнтези-романов («Мои первые две тысячи лет: автобиография Вечного жида», «Саломея: Вечная жидовка» и «Непобедимый Адам»), изданной в 1928 год—1932 годах.

Биография

Родился 5 мая 1888 года в Бухаресте (Румыния) в семье Леона и Жанетт Элдридж (в девичестве Лафлёр)[3]. 15 августа 1900 года вместе с семьёй иммигрировал в США[3]. Женился на писательнице Сильветт де Ламар (автор романа 1932 года «Евреи с крестом»[4]).

В 1909 году получил степень бакалавра наук в Темпльском университете, в 1911 году — степень магистра искусств в Пенсильванском университете[5], а в 1913 году — докторскую степень в Парижском университете. С 1910 года по 1912 год преподавал английскую литературу в колледже Святого Иоанна в Филадельфии. В 1913 году читал лекции по американской литературе в Сорбонне, а в 1923 году — во Флорентийском университете[6]. До выхода на пенсию в 1945 году работал учителем романских языков в средней школе в Нью-Йорке[7]. Состоял в Лиге авторов и драматургов Американской гильдии авторов[6].

Соавтор Элдриджа, американский поэт и прозаик Джордж Сильвестр Вирек, в 1940-е годы был заключён в тюрьму как нацистский агент[8]. Многие из поздних книг Элдриджа были опубликованы Э. Холдеман-Джулиусом в серии «Big Blue Books».

Скончался 26 июля 1982 года в возрасте 94 лет в доме престарелых в Нью-Йорке[9][7].
