Сувин, Дарко

Окончил Загребский университет, с 1968 живёт в Канаде. Почётный профессор (Professor Emeritus) английской литературы Университета МакГилла (Монреаль)^[3][4]. Наиболее известен рядом работ, анализирующих научную фантастику, в том числе и советскую и восточноевропейскую. После выхода в отставку в 1999, проживает в Лукке. Член Королевского общества Канады (Академии социальных и гуманитарных наук) с 1986 года^[4]. В прошлом входил в экспертный совет левого журнала «Novi Plamen», но больше не является членом редакции^[5][6].

Дарко Сувин является основоположником теории «когнитивного остранения» (cognitive estrangement). В своей фундаментальной работе «Метаморфозы научной фантастики» (1979) он определил научную фантастику как литературу когнитивного остранения, где центральным элементом выступает «новум» (novum) — научно-обоснованное допущение или инновация^[7][8]. Его подход неразрывно связывает научную фантастику с традицией утопии и рассматривает жанр как инструмент социального анализа, критики и политической эпистемологии^[8][9].

• Премия «Пилигрим» (Pilgrim Award, 1979) — за пожизненный вклад в изучение научной фантастики^[4].
• Премия «Сфера» (SFera Award, 2009) — за пожизненные достижения^[5].
• Премия имени Лаймана Тауэра Сарджента (L.T. Sargent Award, 2013) — за выдающиеся научные достижения в области утопических исследований^[4].
