Департамент транспортных средств
Департамент транспортных средств (англ. Department of Motor Vehicles, DMV) — государственное учреждение, которое занимается регистрацией транспортных средств и выдачей водительских прав. В таких странах, как Канада, Мексика и США, DMV организованы на уровне штата или провинции, тогда как в других регионах, таких как Европа, DMV организованы на национальном уровне.
В зависимости от того, где находится «DMV», он также может быть известен как «Отдел автотранспортных средств» (англ. Division of Motor Vehicles) или «Автотранспортное бюро» (англ. Bureau of Motor Vehicles).
Терминология и организация
Выдача водительских прав и регистрация транспортных средств в Соединённых Штатах осуществляется местным правительством штата во всех штатах, кроме Гавайев, где местные органы власти сами выполняют функции DMV[1]. В Канаде водительскими правами и регистрацией транспортных средств занимается правительство провинции[2].
В Едином транспортном кодексе предпочтение отдаётся названию «Департамент транспортных средств» (англ. Department of Motor Vehicles)[3]. Аббревиатура «DMV» чаще всего используется для описания агентства (там, где оно существует); однако в разных юрисдикциях используются разные названия.
