Heterothops (лат.) — род жуков-стафилинид из подсемейства Staphylininae. Около 150 видов.

Распространение

Палеарктика, Неарктика, Неотропика, Юго-Восточная Азия и Австралия[1]. В Афротропике (Ангола, Руанда, ЮАР) известен только один вид Heterothops megalops Cameron, 1959 (ещё 7 видов Heterothops известны из палеарктической части северной Африки и Канарских островов)[2]. Для фауны СССР указывалось до 15 видов[3].

Описание

Коротконадкрылые жуки. Длина тела 2—6 мм (2 мм у Heterothops microtophilus[4]). Окраска буровато-чёрная. От близких родов отличаются мелкими шиловидными последними члениками челюстных и губных щупиков. Лапки 5-члениковые[3]. Живут в разлагающихся растительных остатках, на окраинах водоёмов, в норах, гнёздах и дуплах млекопитающих и птиц[5].

Куколки: пронотум не менее чем с 20 выступами; голова маленькая, с 2 выступами; брюшные сегменты II—VIII каждый с парой шипов по бокам; дыхальца брюшных сегментов II—IV без придатков[6][7].

Heterothops praevius

Систематика

Около 150 видов[8]. Род был впервые выделен в 1829 году английским энтомологом Джеймсом Френсисом Стивенсом[9]. Ранее включался в состав подтрибы Quediina (или трибы Quediini)[1]. Род рассматривается высокополифилетичной «таксономической мусорной корзиной» в составе подсемейства Staphylininae (Staphylinini, подтриба Amblyopinina) и в 2024 году в ходе ревизии подсемейства из Heterothops был выделен род Chiquiticus[10][11]. Кроме того, представители Heterothops из Австралии, острова Лорд-Хау и Папуа — Новой Гвинеи, по крайней мере, не являются сородичами голарктических представителей этого рода (включая типовой вид), и могут быть тесно связаны (а некоторые из них, вероятно, сородичи) с южноамериканским родом Cheilocolpus Solier, 1849[2].
